What is amoxiclav?

You must have read at least once in your life that there are two types of bacteria – good bacteria and bad bacteria. The one present in curd or yogurt is the good bacteria that helps boost immunity. The ones that cause severe infections in our body, cause flu, and other skin inflammatory signs – are the bad ones. The drug that can be used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections is Amoxyclav for dogs.

The one catch with this drug is that you have to be absolutely sure of the type of infection you have. The drug will have negligible to zero effect on any sort of viral infection

Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid

The Amoxyclav for cats and Clavulanic acid is widely used to treat Sexually Transmitted diseases (STDs). Having said all of this, this is a very good practice to always get checked beforehand and only then proceed with taking any sort of drug.

As mentioned in the above paragraph, this is just a combination of the two acids and is used as a mix to treat not just bacterial infections but also urinary infections. These are widely used to clear any sort of problem or pain in the ears, lungs, nose, and any such organ that is prone to bacterial infection in the dog.

What is the difference between Augmentin and amoxicillin?

These are two different types of drugs that have the same origin. The two drugs in question are both penicillin drugs that are used to treat all sorts of bacterial infections in our body parts, cannot be bought without petprescription. The only major truth to this, or a fact is – Augmentin contains Amoxicillin. Either you would have just one drug – Augmentin given to you to fend off any sort of bacterial infection. Or you’d be given a mix of the two drugs to act in the frontline towards any curable infection.

Amoxicillin is a solo drug that works on your parts like ear or nose etc whereas the Augmentin drug kit is a combination drug that has far more impact on your sinus and internal deep-rooted issues – as told by pet pharmacy.

Please note that no amount of permutation and combination with penicillin would have you fend off the viral infections.

How is Amoxyclav given?

Amoxyclav is given as a tablet to the patient. The best advice would be to take it with water and after eating your food to full.

Are there any potential side effects?

There are definitely side effects to every drug that comes into existence. Even with Penicillin, there will be mild to severe effects depending on the dose and the body type of the dog in question. The most commonly observed are:

1.       Vomiting

2.       Diarrhea

3.       Nausea

4.       Fever and irregular breathing

5.       Rashes on the skin as a bacterial side effect

What if I miss giving a medication dose?

The easiest thing with the penicillin-type doses is that you can go without fretting if you miss out on doses with this one. You can give the dog dose after you remember and it will have the same impact – get it checked by a pet chemist.

The only thing you should keep in the mind would be to not give your dog two doses at the same time; this will result in excessive side effects and thus loss of a lot of energy on the dog’s part – have it confirmed by the pet chemist online.

Is there any monitoring that needs to be done?

You can always keep an eye on the behavioral changes of the dog, If it becomes way too aggressive, there is some irritant inside the body that it is trying to kick out. Look out for loss of energy on the dog’s part and see for any signs of loss of appetite.

Are there any risk factors for this medication?

The drug should be avoided at all costs in dogs with hypersensitivity to the penicillin type of drugs. If this is not taken care of, it will lead to permanent damage to the dog’s future. Also, do not give this drug to animals like rabbits,s, etc (in case you have them as well as your pet). They do not work very well in these animals whose body types are built differently.

Store the doses in 25-26 Degree temperature, away from direct sunlight or heat. Keep in a cold and warm place to avoid any internal reactions.

What should I do in case of an emergency?

If there are serious and rapid side effects as soon as the dog has been given the pet – rush to the pet supplies for any sort of pacification that needs to be done.

What is Previcox?

Previcox

What is Previcox?

Our pets are our dearest friends most of the time. In the beginning of them at our place, you will probably find them inclined a lot towards being around you and wagging their tail. You will find them being highly energetic. Their energy usually stays alike for the most part of their lives unless they are sick. Here’s a condition where they are suddenly tired and not moving – unless you force them to. This is a condition that can be cured by Previcox. The drug helps loosen up arthritis within the dog’s joint.

How does Previcox work?

It works to lessen the inflammation mostly on the joints of the dog. It also helps loosen up the pain at the pain areas. The non-steroid drug is capable of doing this by inhibiting an enzyme called COX-2 in the areas of hurt (mostly joints). It is an inflammatory drug (NSAID) that has adverse effects on the dog if given without the vet’s consultation. The dosage should be strictly followed without failing more than 2 doses.

Equioxx vs. Previcox

This one’s an interesting difference when it comes to the origin and the work of both the drugs. Both the drugs are manufactured by Merial. The two drugs are non-steroid (NSAID) drugs that work to ease out the inflammation and pain in the joints of animals. The major difference and the only difference is with the animal- Previcox for dogs while Equioxx is for horses. Many people get confused between the two because of the manufacturer and the kind of impact it has – this needs to be given special attention while buying/

Are there possible side effects that may occur in my dog during treatment with PREVICOX (firocoxib)?

Unlike humans, animals have severe side effects to most of the drugs that they consume. The secret lies in having properly monitored and advised drugs given to them. With Previcox for cats there are a set of side effects that come into the picture:

1.       Nausea

2.       Vomiting

3.       Diarrhoea

4.       Blood Stools

5.       Weight loss

6.       Allergic reaction

The side effects could go to a huge extent as well. The main cause is mostly not researching the type of body your dog has and if the drug suits well to the same. Once the above reactions come into the picture, you must get the dog checked at the pet chemist online to avoid any further permanent complications.

Benefits:

The most basic benefit of the drug is how fast it can act on the dog. With any sort of joint inflammation, the dog can sense relaxation in about a few hours. The drug can also be used for long term purposes if the dog has reached a certain old age – and requires treatment every now and then. Of course, goes without saying that the vet supplies should have approved the drug usage for a prolonged time.

The second basic advantage is that the inflammation in the joint of the dog can now even be reduced by these chewable tablets. Most of the pet prescriptions too suggest that owners are always concerned about the fact that the dog might not take the tablet in, even when mixed with food – they end up puking the whole of it. These tablets are now chewable.

What is the most important thing I should know about Previcox?

While the drug has wonderful effects on the dog by easing out the pain there is, there will be one thing that you should always look out for. The drug causes severe behavioural changes in the dog. When it is about behaviour, they can become way too aggressive for their breed; they can also be very soft against their normal behaviour – get it checked once a while through pet pharmacy.

What should I discuss with my veterinarian before giving Previcox to my pet?

There are very important things that should discuss with the vet before starting the course of Previcox for pets. Here is a couple of them:

1.       The weight control and monitoring of the dog while on the dosage

2.       What tests must be done to ensure no severe side effects are observed in the dog

3.       What should be the ideal diet once the behaviour changes onset

How should Previcox be given?

The most commonly used dosage would be the 2.27mg/lb of the body weight and is mostly used for the old-age dogs – you can consult the pet chemist. The timing is mostly once daily and two hours prior to the surgery that you might encounter for the joint inflammation.

The dosage of 57Mg should be ideal for a 10-pound dog. Since the effect immediately is on the weight of the dog, it is also important to see the dosage as per the weight of the dog.
